Add 2 T. olive oil to a medium-sized pan and bring to medium-high heat.
Sauté onions until slightly caramelized and tender, about 6 to 8 minutes.
Add mushrooms and a pinch of salt and pepper to sauté pan. Sauté mushrooms until tender, about 4 to 5 minutes; season to taste and set aside.
In a large pan add remaining 1 T. oil, and season both sides of burger slider patties, sear on both sides about 3 to 4 mins per side.
Place a spoonful of mushrooms and onions on top of each burger, and top with a provolone cheese slice.
Place water in pan and cover the pan; steaming for about 45 seconds to 1 minute until cheese melts.
Meanwhile, toast slider buns cut side down in a large pan with unsalted butter. When toasted, remove and set aside.
