How to Make Bourbon-Apple Glazed Ham
Everyone loves a mouthwatering ham centerpiece for their Easter meal, but the idea of spending all day in the kitchen can be daunting. That’s why we’re preparing this dish with a 5-lb. Omaha Steaks Duroc Boneless Country Ham. It comes from a heritage breed of pork that’s coveted for its juiciness and flavor and slow-smoked for up to 8 hours, ensuring a rich, savory flavor in every bite. And the best part is the ham meat delivery arrives at your doorstep ready to thaw and serve. And with the addition of our easy and delicious glaze, this is one meal your family and friends will never forget.
1. Ham It Up
Start prepping your Omaha Steaks Duroc Boneless Country Ham by thawing it in the refrigerator for 26 to 28 hours before you’re ready to cook. Once it’s fully thawed, remove the packaging and place your ham on a roasting rack in an oven-safe roasting pan, cut-side down and allow the ham to come up to room temperature on the counter for about 1 hour.
Next, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Cover your ham with aluminum foil, place it on the center rack, and bake for 1 hour. This downtime will be a great time to start preparing you delicious glaze.
2. Make a Glaze to Amaze
An Omaha Steaks ham is already a juicy, mouthwatering feast for your taste buds, but the rich, sweet, and savory flavor of this glaze will elevate it to an unforgettable masterpiece. Start by bringing a medium-sized saucepan to medium heat and adding your butter and olive oil.
Next, add your shallots and garlic, and sauté for 30 seconds. Then, add your bourbon to the pan and bring it to a boil for about 60 seconds until it’s reduced in volume by 1/3. Whisk in the remaining ingredients until well-incorporated and the jelly has melted, then reduce heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper if needed. Then remove the glaze from the heat and allow it to cool to room temperature until it thickens to a glaze-like consistency.
3. Glaze a Trail
Once your ham has baked for 1 hour, remove the foil and cook for another 30 minutes, uncovered. Brush your glaze on the uncovered ham every 8 minutes during this time (a total of 3 times).
Next, carefully broil the ham for about 3 to 5 minutes, until slightly crisp. It’s very important to watch your ham closely during this step to prevent overcooking.
The internal temperature of the ham should be 140 degrees Fahrenheit and the ham should have a nice glaze on the outside. Allow it to rest for about 20 minutes, then slice and serve with the remaining glaze on the side.
