How to Make BBQ Sloppy Joes

There’s no shortage of sloppy joe recipes, but the Omaha Steaks Ultra-Premium Ground Beef sets this dish apart. This ground beef is made from the real trimmings of steak, and with an 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio, you’re getting the most flavorful and juicy ground beef for your sloppy joes. It’s time to get started!

1. Let’s Mix Up Some Coleslaw

This coleslaw is simple to make and delivers a delicious creamy crunch to the top of your sloppy joes. To make this coleslaw, add smooth mayonnaise, mild rice vinegar, sweet sugar, piquant hot sauce, and savory Worcestershire sauce to a small bowl. Whisk ingredients together until well incorporated. Then fold in the coleslaw mix and season to taste with salt and pepper. Refrigerate until the sloppy joes are ready.

2. Cook Up the Beef

To brown your ground beef, either thaw your Omaha Steaks Ultra-Premium Ground Beef in the refrigerator overnight or use our quick-thaw method.

Let’s get the pan ready! Preheat the pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once the pan is hot, add the ground beef, pungent garlic cloves and powder, and smoky Spanish paprika, cooking until browned, about six to seven minutes.

Next, remove the ground beef mixture from the pan and add the diced yellow onions, red bell pepper, and sauté until tender, about three to four minutes. Then, put the meat back into the pan and add your favorite barbeque sauce, condensed tomato soup, savory Worcestershire sauce, tangy hot sauce, and water. Bring everything to a boil and then simmer for 12 to 14 minutes; season to taste with salt and pepper.

3. Assemble Your BBQ Sloppy Joes

Now for the fun part! Add mayonnaise to each side of the bun, and toast on medium-high heat. Then spread the sloppy joe mixture on one side of each bun, top with the coleslaw, finish with the other bun, and dig in!
