Cod is an incredibly popular fish with seafood lovers around the world… and for good reason. Its flavor is mild and pleasantly palatable, and its texture is dense and flaky meaning it can be cooked a variety of ways. Battered cod is often fried to make fish and chips, but for cod fillets we recommend baking.
About Wild Alaskan Cod
Wild caught on long lines in the Gulf of Alaska, our wild Alaskan cod is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council’s standard for sustainable fishing. It’s easy to cook and even easier to fall in love with.
Cod Nutrition
Cod (not breaded) has a fantastic protein-to-fat ratio – 30 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat in a 6 oz. fillet – making it an excellent choice for the health-conscious. It’s also naturally rich in vitamins A, D, and E as well as omega-3 fatty acids. Wild Alaskan cod fillets are naturally gluten free, and are great for anyone following a ketogenic, low sodium or paleo diet.
Preparing Cod Fillets
The flavor of baked cod is so mild and so versatile, there’s almost no limits to how you can prepare it. But there are two basic ways that almost anyone can do and you will definitely find satisfying.
- Naked: Just brush your cod fillets with olive oil, sea salt, and fresh lemon juice prior to placing them in the oven.
- Crunchy: Dredge your cod fillets in a lightly seasoned flour mixture and drizzle them with butter and lemon juice before placing them in the oven.
Baking Cod Fillets
Cod fillets from Omaha Steaks come frozen and vacuum-sealed. You can actually cook them from frozen OR thawed, depending on the time you have to prep. To quick thaw cod, simply unpackage desired number of fillets and place in a sealable plastic bag. Remove as much air from the bag as possible and immerse in cold water for approximately 30 minutes.
