How to Bake Fish

Leaving fish in the oven for even a minute too long can mean the difference between moist, succulent fish and dried-out fish. The key to baking fish is for the right amount of time is to check frequently and remember that it will continue to cook even after you remove it from the oven.

1. Thaw Fish Fillets

It’s important to thaw your fish before baking. Thaw by unpacking the desired number of fillets, set and cover on a plate, and place in the refrigerator. For faster thawing, submerge packaged fillets in cold water for approximately 30 minutes.

2. Season

Lightly brush both sides of fillets with olive oil or melted butter and season with salt and pepper or our Seafood Rub with Citrus and Herb. For a flavor explosion, marinate your fish fillets for 30 minutes in one of our seafood marinade recipes including:

3. Preheat Oven to 400°F

Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Arrange fish fillets on a single layer on the baking sheet. If you chose a filet with the skin-on, place your fish skin side down on the pan. Once your oven is fully preheated, place the pan in the oven.

4. Bake your Fish

While baking times vary depending on the type of fish, most fish bakes in the oven for 10-17 minutes. Fillets are done when the internal temperature of this fish reaches 145°F as measured by a meat thermometer in the thickest section of the fillet.
