One-Pan Steak Frites with Fries or Crispy Mashed Potatoes & Garlic Aioli Sauce

Steak frites, French for “steak and fries”, is a popular dish with fried steak bites and crispy potatoes. Our version of steak frites is made in one skillet with juicy steak bites and French fries or garlic mashed potatoes (your choice) smothered in a simple garlic aioli sauce. This restaurant-style dish is a great weeknight recipe and ready in under 20 minutes.

This recipe comes together quickly with perfectly cut and portioned beef sirloin tips. However, you can use your favorite steak cut for this recipe. Try filet mignon tips for a mild beef flavor and tender texture.

Fries or Mashed Potatoes?

There are two versions of our steak bite and potato recipe – classic steakhouse fries or Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Both are excellent and it’s up to your cravings which version you prefer. Fries or mashed potatoes, when you pair with juicy steak tips, your taste buds will thank you.

How to Cook Steak Frites

When steak cravings strike, this recipe will satisfy your hunger in just 20 minutes. To start, toss your steak pieces with Omaha Steaks Private Reverse Rub and cook in oil for 3-4 minutes. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside. Add your fries or mashed potatoes and cook according to recipe below. Top with garlic lemon aioli or your favorite sauce if desired.

Fries

  • Toss thawed steak pieces with 1 tablespoon rub.
  • Preheat a medium nonstick skillet to medium high. Add 1 tablespoon oil and ½ of the steak pieces. Sauté 3-4 minutes until steak pieces have browned and reached desired level of doneness. Remove from pan and repeat with remaining steak pieces. Remove steak pieces from pan and set aside.
  • Add 1 tablespoon oil and ½ package of fries to pan. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until fries are crispy. Remove fries from pan add 1 tablespoon oil and repeat with remaining fries.
  • Remove fries from pan and serve with steak pieces.

Mashed Potatoes:

  • Toss thawed steak pieces with 1 tablespoon rub.
  • Preheat a medium nonstick skillet to medium high. Add 1 tablespoon oil and ½ steak pieces. Sauté 3-4 minutes until steak pieces have browned and reached desired level of doneness. Remove steak pieces from pan and repeat with remaining steak pieces. Remove steak pieces from pan and set aside.
  • Add 2 tablespoons oil and cooked mashed potatoes to the pan. Press potatoes to flatten to edges of pan. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Invert a plate over the top of your sauté pan. Flip pan over so the potatoes release to the plate. Top with steak pieces and serve.

Notes

Chefs Tip: For a quick Poutine top either of these recipes with your favorite cheese curds and brown gravy.
Top with a garlic aioli sauce, if desired. 

Easy Garlic Aioli Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 garlic cloves pressed
  • ¼ tsp. or more coarse kosher salt
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 T. olive oil
  • 1 T. fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • Mash garlic and ¼ tsp. salt in a small bowl until a paste forms. Whisk in mayonnaise, oil, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper. Aioli can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.
