Lobster tails are the ultimate seafood indulgence. Grilling lobster adds a unique smokiness and char to the meat and shell. Fancy yet simple, grilled lobster tails are easy to achieve when following our step-by-step guide and grill-side video tutorial.

The Best Lobster Tails for Grilling

Choosing quality lobster is key to having an easy and successful experience cooking lobster at home. At Omaha Steaks, we flash freeze our seafood to ensure ocean-fresh flavor. And for easy shell removal our Split Lobster Tail Skewers come pre-skewered so you can enjoy every bit of this decadent shellfish.

How to Grill Lobster Tails

Deliciously grilled lobster tails can be accomplished in just a few simple steps.

1. Thaw

Before grilling, thaw your lobster in the refrigerator overnight to avoid damaging the taste or texture. For a faster method, place your packaged lobster in cold water for 30-60 minutes, changing the water every 30 minutes. Avoid thawing lobster in hot water as that may cause it to thaw unevenly and result in an inferior taste.

2. Butterfly the Lobster Tails

For our full-size Cold Lobster Tails, you can butterfly each by slicing through the middle of the tail, stopping when you hit the bottom shell. Open the cut lobster tail and press down to flatten. Splitting the tails makes it easier to season and allows the lobster to cook more evenly. If you decide to indulge in our 2.5oz Main Lobster Tail Halves or our Split Lobster Tail Skewers, those are already butterflied so you can skip this step!

3. Season

Generously brush the lobster tails with melted butter or olive oil to help retain moisture lost from cooking. Season with your favorite seafood blend or Omaha Steaks seafood seasoning.

4. Prep Grill

Preheat your gas or charcoal grill to high heat. Clean and oil grill grates.

5. Grill Lobster Tails

Place your lobster tails directly over the heat source meat side up for about 7 minutes. The lobster shell will start to turn red in color and the meat will start to become opaque. While cooking, squeeze fresh lemon over the lobster tails for another hint of flavor. Flip the lobster meat side down and let cook for another 5 minutes. Once the meat of the tail is completely opaque your lobster can come off the grill!
