How to Boil Lobster

Boiling lobster is a fool-proof cooking method for juicy and tender lobster. No matter your level of cooking skills, preparing lobster is no longer intimidating. Just follow these three simple steps.

1. Thaw (Optional)

When thawing, remove from plastic packaging. Cover and refrigerate below 38°F. Once thawed, consume within one to two days. However, since you’ve decided to boil your lobster, thawing is optional, and you can take them straight from the freezer to the stovetop.

2. Butterfly the Lobster Tails

For our full-size Cold-Water Lobster Tails, butterfly tails by cutting down through middle of hard shell with a sharp knife, stopping when you hit the bottom shell. Open the cut lobster tail and press down to flatten. Splitting the tails allows the lobster to cook more evenly.

3. Boiling Lobster

Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a large saucepan. Place lobster tails in the boiling water. After the water begins to boil once more, reduce the heat to a simmer. If cooking from frozen cook for 12-15 minutes and if thawed 5-6 minutes. When the lobster meat is white and opaque you can remove them from the pot and enjoy.
