Follow the steps below to learn how to grill mahi mahi and you’ll be set for a delicious paradise meal at home.
How to Grill Mahi Mahi
Don’t be afraid to grill seafood. The firm and flaky texture of mahi mahi makes it a perfect fish to throw on the grill and to top with a variety of seasonings and marinades.
1. Thaw Mahi Mahi
Soon after catch, Omaha Steaks Mahi Mahi is flash-frozen and delivered in vacuum-sealed packaging to your doorstep to ensure the utmost freshness. We recommend thawing your mahi mahi in your refrigerator overnight. The gradual thawing is the best method for keeping freshness intact. If you’re in a pinch for time, no worries, simply unpackage the desired number of fillets and place in a sealable plastic bag. Remove as much air from the bag as possible and immerse in cold water for approximately 30 minutes.
2. Heat Grill to Medium-High Heat
Begin preheating your clean grill to a medium-high heat while preparing your mahi mahi. Lightly oil grill grates before placing fish on the grill.
3. Season and Prep Mahi Mahi
Since mahi mahi is a fabulously lean fish, it can dry out very quickly. This is where melted butter or oil can help by creating a protective, moisture-laden layer to help infuse the fish with juiciness and prevent any major moisture loss. Season your mahi mahi with your favorite marinade, seasoning, or our Omaha Steaks Signature Seafood Rub.
4. Grill Mahi Mahi
Once your grill is preheated, place each fish fillet on the grill, flipping them to the other side after 6-7 minutes. After 5-6 minutes on the second side, check to see that they are opaque throughout. If so, remove the fish from the grill, garnish, and enjoy! Chef Tip: Don’t flip your fish too early. This is how fillets fall apart. If it sticks, it’s not ready to flip.
