How to Steam Shrimp

Shrimp is such a versatile protein-rich option, that is fast and easy to cook! Steam shrimp in a flash with these four simple steps.

1.Thaw Shrimp

To prepare shrimp for cooking, refrigerate overnight by removing the shrimp from the bag. Place in a strainer with a plate underneath. Once completely thawed, rinse well and drain. To thaw faster, remove the desired amount of shrimp from the bag. Place in a bowl of cold water for 10-20 minutes. Once thawed, be sure to use shrimp within 24 hours.

2. Season Shrimp

Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel. Then season our Omaha Steaks Seafood Rub with Citrus & Herb or your favorite seasoning blend. Not a seasoning expert? When in doubt a dash of salt, pepper, and garlic is always a safe bet.

3. Boil Water

Bring two-thirds to half a pot of water to a rapid boil. If you’ve got a steamer basket, now’s the time to pull it out. If not, don’t worry, you can use a colander or mesh strainer.

4. Steam Shrimp

Once the water is boiling, place the steaming vessel above the water and add the shrimp. It’s important that the shrimp are above the water and should not be touching the surface or in any way submerged. Steam your shrimp for 5-6 minutes, tossing halfway to ensure even cooking. Fully cooked shrimp will turn opaque in color and have an internal temperature of 145°F.
